What the hell happened to my lovely 8-year-old daughter?

In the space of two weeks, my daughter went from being respectful and kind to someone i don't even recognise anymore. She shouts and screams at me when i ask her the smallest things, she told me yesterday that she "wished" i "was dead". I am so shocked and overwhelmed. As for as i know nothing has happened to trigger this change, she is happy and stable at school and her home environment is unchanged. She always had a quick temper, but nothing like that rages and physical abuse that happen now. Her younger brother and sister these blow-ups and are stupefied. I really don't know how to handle it, it's like i've suddenly got a teenager, but she is obviously to young for that and shows now signs of some sort of early puberty. I desperately need some advice on how to handle this, because every single thing i say seems to make her worse and worse.

Something is upsetting her somewhere.
Could it be the school play, and stage fright.

Please don't dismiss a child's behaviour as "hormones". Hormones may amplify feelings, but by putting everything down to hormones you may miss the real reason for a change in behaviour.

She is obviously unhappy somewhere. You say she is "happy and stable" at school- how do you know? Could she be being bullied? It only takes something like getting a part in the play the queen bee wants..Bear in mind she may hide it from you and her teachers. Also bear in mind she may be putting on a brave face at school then taking it out on you when she is in a safe environment.
