Should I let my nearly 6 month old sleep like this? (Pic)

Hi, DS is 5 1/2 months old, slept in sleepyhead every night since we brought him home. Lately he's started rolling over and sleeping on his side which is fine for naps or when he's cuddled with me, but I'm not sure if I should let him sleep like this for the night. He's still right next to me so I can see and hear him, I'm just worried he might roll on to his front or squish his face into the bottom and not get back up. Might be over thinking it because he's completely sound asleep just now, but if I roll him back on to his back he will wake up within a few mins and thrash around until he's on his side again.

If he got himself there he should be fine.

When mine started doing this I got rid of the sleepyhead because it worried me too much and I couldn’t relax and go to sleep myself as I was always worrying they would suffocate

Sleepyhead isnt suitable for unsupervised sleep especially when they start to turn over. Lullabye trust doesnt recommend them at all

I would take the sleepyhead out of the cot

Remove sleepyhead, it is like a cot bumper and can wedge face against it. But sleeping on side or even front if they put themselves there is fine.

I'd be taking the sleepyhead out immediately. Aside from that, he will be perfectly fine.

Yeah I removed the sleepyhead when they could do this. It's hard because they look so comfy then when you put them in the cot without it theres suddenly all this space but honestly he will adjust. Gorgeous pic though!

Can he roll from front to back independently? It's not just the getting there, it's getting back again.

He looks super comfortable (and cute!) but I personally wouldn't leave him like that overnight. Try without the Sleepyhead and see how he gets on.

The SleepyHead is only for supervised naps!

He looks too big for it now tbh and I would agree with the pp about unsupervised sleeping.

I agree, lose the sleepyhead. Can he roll right over? May not be long til he starts sleeping on his front, most babies do this at some stage.

Thanks for all the replies, I agree with most it was making me a bit uneasy seeing him so close to the sides so I've removed it.

DD slept on her side/ front from about 4/5 months as she was rolling over. She still hates being on her back now.

Carry on but definitely ditch the sleepyhead and just move to a cot. Better to be safe.

The first sleepy head is suitable to 6 months but that depends on the size of the baby. Your baby has outgrown this version of it.

He can roll from back to front but not quite the other way yet.

Yeah he's definitely outgrown it, I think I was holding on to it because he sleeps so well in it (or did, when he just slept on his back). It's done us well for 5 months but time to ditch it.

My baby who’s a couple of weeks older sleeps the exact same way. She puts herself in that position. I don’t have a sleepyhead though.

My DS slept like that a lot so I took the pillow out of the sleepyhead and put it round the outside of the cot under a sheet. It gave him more room without making him go cold turkey by removing the sleepyhead entirely!
