I started weaning my 7 month old 2 months ago. his great with food has his breakfast and tea and a little snack around lunch time but his day bottle feeds are becoming difficult to give him. he has about 6 to 7 oz in the morning and at bed time but the rest of the time he only will take up to 4 oz. he seems happy and still playing an smiling but during the bottle he kicks off pushing the bottle away. I don't want to force the bottle. I have changed to teat flow as thinking maybe its that but his still not wanting it. I do the milk feeds first before food. Any advice????

Sounds like he's doing great with food - I think they need to have something like 20oz of milk per day (worth googling that to check the correct amount) in addition to food once they start weaning. You can give a multi vit if you're concerned about nutrients. My DS took a while to drop any bottles but once he did, he went from 5-2 fairly quickly.

Does he have water or juice as well? Sounds like he’s just full and not thirsty.

I would consider getting a baby vitamin such as abidec and offering him less milk. The HV always told me don’t offer milk before food because it will confuse their hunger signals.

I would also try putting his milk in a cup or bottle with handles so he can try and tell you when he wants it by grabbing it?

thanks for the replies I am giving him water through out the day now to make sure he is getting fluids. he just grabs the bottle of water when he wants it. I bought handles for his milk bottles which he just grabs and shakes the bottle about. he seems fine still happy and eating his food. I am hoping I am worrying for no reason. he does good bottles for bed and first thing in the morning. the HV weighted him last week and his putting on weight. hopefully it is first time mum worry.

My daughter always refused the bottle and health visitor said no reason for her to have one just use a sippy cup. She also didn’t really like to drink milk ever. These guidelines are guidelines not a law - if your baby is happy, healthy and growing as expected don’t worry.

My DD was the same. When I asked a HV they said not to worry and that after eating nice tasting foods it isn’t unusual for foul tasting formula to be refused. I just added a multi vitamin to water. Still offered a bottle but if she didn’t take it I didn’t worry.

Is he teething? My son refused entire feeds during this time. It passed after a few days.

I think thats ok. You have siad he has around 7oz morning and evening = 14oz, plus 4oz once or twice in the day = 18-22oz per day. He will be getting liquids from his food also, plus any dairy in his meals. plus he drinks water on top.
