Things you don't want to pass onto your children *lighthearted*

My oh and I have been talking about the things we would love our children to take from us (i.e. guitar and football playing from him, reading from me) but also the things we really don't want to pass onto them, as in fears and superstitions we have.

My dp is terrified of spiders, it's seriously irrational, he can not deal with them in any size, so I have to evict them every time.

I always salute magpies, this is something my mum passed onto me, and my day can ruined worry if what's going to go wrong if I see one without another.

We've both agreed that these are two things we don't want our little boy to pick up as he gets older, because superstition and fear, just like racism are (imo) learnt behaviours.

So, are there any quirks that you or your other half have, that you don't want your child to develop?

Too late mine are all grown up and have got some of mine and my husband's weird little habits. I am always going around switching lights off and checking that doors and cars are locked, which you might think is sensible but when you are doing it at 3am in the morning it can become extremely tedious. My husbands bad habits are leaving his shoes by the front door for everyone to trip over and sleeping on the sofa instead of in bed .... the list is endless I'm afraid...

@Mileysmiley ahh door checking, that's one he's given me!! He has a rhyme he does when he leaves the house, he'll check the handle 4 times while chanting "1 2 3 4, now I know I've locked the door" I've found that in the 5 years we've lived together I've started doing it 😳

@BobTheFishermansWife

My other half chants this when using a phillips screwdriver "righty tighty ... lefty loosey" Grin

Another one here with an —ir—rational fear of spiders. Stood at the bottom of my stairs for over an hour once, just staring at the spider that was stopping me going to bed. DH was away and there was only me.

I don’t think all fears and behaviours are learnt though. My DD is terrified of every fly and neither of us have ever shown any sign of fear for them.

Cross out fail there...
