Gripe Water making baby sleepy

Missejd · 11/06/2019 19:09

My 6 week old daughter has been suffering with wind problems to the point where she was screaming in pain.

Someone recommended Gripe Water which I have used today and it seems to have helped but its made my daughter really sleepy.
Is this normal? I'm abit worried about using it again due to this.

Thanks x

Maybe shes just out of pain now so shes more relaxed & able to sleep more...Sounds like it's doing its job!Smile

Missejd · 11/06/2019 19:24

I was hoping that is the reason why but just wanted to make sure it was normal.
Being a first time mum I litrally worry about everything Smile

We use it pretty frequently to ease wind and to help DD sleep.

it wasn't a bottle of gripe water that had been in the family for 50 years was it?
because it used to contain alcohol Grin

She's just more comfortable so can sleep peacefully.

Gripe water is incredible. I used to love hearing it gurgle and bubble through my DCs tummy, followed by a hearty burp. They were always super chilled and easy going afterwards. There's no actual medical reason why it should work, but it definitely does!

We have been using it since week 6 as bad wind which resulted in screaming, she is more sleepy after as the wind is not causing her pain. I only use a little and it really seems to help

Thank you all that's put my mind at rest.
She has certainly been a lot happier today so it has definitely worked Grin

I'm having the same problem with my 7 week old but the gripe water isn't having any affect at all. I was wondering if I was using it wrong 😭

I wish it made my baby sleepy, I'm blooming exhausted SadSadSad

@stressedandsore Have you tried a different type of gripe water? I’ve been using boots own and it’s more like a syrup but seems to work really well for my baby. But I know different brands have different ingredients so it might be worth trying a few to see which one helps.

@Missejd - I was terrified the first time I gave gripe water too, she went so floppy! But like others have said I think it’s just because they’re fed and their tummy feels better so happy babies!! Glad it’s working for you - what brand have you used?

Missejd · 12/06/2019 06:42

@browniee - Yea it's scary how quick she settled that's why I was so worried.
I am using Woodwards.
