What to dress baby in, in this weather?

This probably sounds very daft but I’m fretting over baby being too hot/too cold in this weather. In the sun it’s about 23 degrees here today, I’ve got sunburn on my chest from a going on a walk, but still feels quite cool in the shade. My one month old DS stayed in the shade in his pram and I dressed him as I would inside the house, vest and sleepsuit. He didn’t feel too hot but other babies we saw on the walk had bare arms and legs. Would he have been ok in just a vest or did I dress him as you would have done? It’s my first child so I’m unsure. I know it would have been more dangerous for him to overheat than to have felt cold but babies need extra layers. We’re going to be outdoors again tomorrow so just wanted to check!

I had a summer baby and our NCT were all worried about dressing our babies in the heat. Our HVs all gave the advice of giving them 1 extra layer than what you've got on. So if you're in shorts and top then do the same for your baby but have them in a vest underneath.

I would do leggings and t shirt. It’s easy to take socks off to cool down but they are more protected from the heat.

I have a hot child.

I also wondered this today. It was 25 degrees out and needed to go out. Had a of outfits out on the bed trying to decide I just went for a short sleeved bodysuits and leggings and socks. She would usually have one extra layer. Kept her under the shade of the buggy as she’s only 5 months, I didn’t want her skin in the sun! I read that from 6 months on they can use sun lotion but does that mean I can’t use it from 5 months if her skin was out? Confusing!

I have a fair skinned red headed 3 month old. This weather and sun has me shirting myself.

Today we went for a walk in pram. She had in a short sleeved vest. Short sleeved and short legged romper and a thin cardi. A sun hat and I used a muslin square to cover her bare legs then an insect net over the whole pram. Seemed OK. Maybe could have taken the cardi off.

I bought some super drug solait factor 50 baby suncream too.

Not sure what to do about tonight. I can't get my head around us needing like a 10tog quilt and babies getting awya with 2.tog.

I had 5 month old dd in a short sleeved and short legged romper today with a vest underneath and she was fine. She is a hot baby usually though. We weren’t outside much but when we were she was in the shade or in the pram with a Muslin handy to cover her legs if needed.

Just put her to bed just in sleepsuit and sleeping bag, I ditched the vest tonight. It’s boiling upstairs even with the windows open and she felt warm! I’m sure she’ll wake me up in the night if she gets chilly but she always been a warm baby so I’m confident she’ll be fine.

I have a 6 week old and I was unsure what to put her in too. Ended up just putting her in a little linen romper, which was essentially just bloomers with an apron front. I didn't put her in a vest or socks. I packed an extra outfit just in case she got too cold and had a muslin blanket to keep the sun off her skin. I'm glad I didn't put her in too much because she did get sweaty in her pram and ended up with heat rash. I'm more worried about what to put her in tonight. I've gone for a babygrow with no vest, and she'll go into her sleeping bag when we go to bed later.

I put my 5 week old in a long sleeve vest and leggings. She stayed in the shade and seemed the right temperature throughout the day. You can always put a blanket on if cold. I wanted her arms and legs covered to protect from the sun.
