8 week jabs - baby has fever even after paracetamol

My DD has had her 8 week jabs today. Just afterwards, around 1pm, I have her liquid paracetamol as advised and was told to give her 3 doses every 6 hours. She woke up very unhappy at half five and had a fever of 38.4 and I gave her more paracetamol. She had a tiny amount of milk and was moaning and lethargic. She's gone to sleep and I've just checked her temperature again and it's still 38.1.

Is this normal? I know they tell you to expect a fever and your baby to possibly feel unwell but I would have thought the paracetamol would have reduced it further by now Sad

Is it calpol you are using?
Calpol can be used every 4 hours, that's the only way you are going to bring that fever down.
Keep baby in minimal clothing and try not to hold her..

It's a liquid paracetamol that was prescribed for this by the HV- the same as Calpol apparently. I'll wake her at half ten to give her another dose. She's asleep now without a blanket, I'm not holding her.

I would give 111 a call, she is so little, they will be able to advise and get a nurse/doctor to talk to if the temp won’t come down.

Just checked on NHS and it says see a GP if a three month old has a temp over 38, so definitely give them a call.
Sure she is ok but always best to check.

What dose are you giving her OP? I'm a little confused by the 3 doses part

123bananas · 19/03/2019 20:43

She needs to be seen by a doctor asap the reduced feeding and lethargy is worrying along with the fever not reducing.

Also you can only give 4 doses of paracetamol in 24 hours even if you give it 4 hourly.

Thank you for the replies. She had more paracetamol at 1130pm which got her temperature down and she's feeding fine now thank goodness.

Glad she is ok! Smile

After these jabs they are supposed to be given 3 doses of paracetamol in total but I'm sure each dose was after 4 hours, not 6
