How to get rid of baby acne?

MassEffectMum88 · 07/03/2019 16:11

My son will be 11 weeks on Tuesday. He's had this since 4 weeks and some days it looks ok and others it looks terrible. My HV assures me it's baby acne and will go away on its own. But is there anything I can do to help and does anyone else's babies have this?

DD had it a bit. Don't think I did anything and it went away.

DS had baby acne, it cleared up by about 12-13 weeks by itself. We didn't put anything on it.

Yeah my DS had this, went away on its own eventually, maybe 15 weeks?

It's very common, just leave it be and it will clear up on its own.

lozengeoflove · 07/03/2019 16:21

As others have said, it will clear. All of mine had it. He’s a gorgeous boy, OP.

MassEffectMum88 · 07/03/2019 16:23

Thanks ladies, just anyone I've spoken to about it has never heard of it and I was starting to get paranoid that it might be something else. My doctor's is a nightmare to get an appointment unless it's an emergency. So was just looking for some reassurance.

Not sure if this will be helpful to you or not but I asked my midwife what I could use and she said put some breastmilk on it! It actually worked and was gone after a few days. Again not sure if you’re breastfeeding but if you are then maybe give it a go?

MassEffectMum88 · 07/03/2019 16:24

Thank you :)

I'm not breast feeding unfortunately. Had some problems this time round. But I know it's a cure for most baby ailments. Good to know it helps with this though, thank you :)

DD had it, sometimes worse than what your DS looks like, think it had all cleared up by around 8 weeks ish but don't remember exactly and obviously all babies are different. I didn't do anything to it although she did also have cradle crap and dry skin until around the same time so we were putting olive oil on her for that. Congrats on your DS he's gorgeous.

Snipples · 07/03/2019 16:32

My DD has this and I just kept her skin nice and clean with childfarm baby products and then childfarm moisturizer and it went away. MIL kept saying it was eczema - it was not.

MassEffectMum88 · 07/03/2019 16:33

Relief to know it will clear up! He's been in hospital recently with a horrible viral bug, so any wee thing just now is freaking me out. He had a bit of cradle cap, was t too bad. Seems to have mostly cleared up. Just a bit on his soft spot. But reluctant to touch that area much obviously. I'd been putting a bit of petroleum jelly on the cradle cap then washing it away in the bath with a soft brush. Didn't think to use olive oil. Aw thank you @MeadowHay

It honestly does go away on its own.

MassEffectMum88 · 07/03/2019 16:35

I'll look into that @Snipples thank you. Yeah I had thought possibly eczema. But it comes and goes and isn't a rash as such. Definitely spots.

Oh my DD had it much much worse. Everyone kept telling me it would go away on its own so I left it for weeks. Then read on here that Aveeno helped and it was gone in about 3 days!

MassEffectMum88 · 07/03/2019 16:39

Oh thank you. Is that the moisturising cream? @Morgan12 what type did you use?

KTD27 · 07/03/2019 16:42

My little girl had it too - pretty badly. Am happy to report she’s blemish free and it went away on its own. No lotions or potions necessary. Here’s a pic with it at its worst

Awe the wee soul @KTD27 she's gorgeous. I'm feeling better about it now, knowing other babies have had it and it's went :) His isn't as bad today, but it's been worse. More so on the right side of his face. And his forehead has just cleared up. I don't know if it's because he's drooling now that it's making it look more angry.

My son had it really bad the poor soul, the hv advised me to go to the dr and he was prescribed an antibacterial cream which helped clear it up in a few days

Morgan12 · 07/03/2019 18:23

Aveeno Baby daily care x

MassEffectMum88 · 12/03/2019 01:08

@Morgan12 Happy to report the Aveeno Daily care cream worked! User it the first night after his bath and the redness had totally calmed down. Now it's more or less gone and his skin feels so much softer. Thank you!

OP posts:
Morgan12 · 12/03/2019 07:22

It's amazing stuff. I've even started using it 😂 glad it's got better x

Bexg16a · 28/04/2020 17:43

Did you use the Aveeno daily on his face?

Letsallscreamatthesistene · 28/04/2020 18:14

Following as my 5 week old has it. It doesnt seem to bother him at all so ive left it, but good to know theres a cure

MassEffectMum88 · 28/09/2020 09:05

I know this thread was ages ago. But I thought I'd reply for anyone interested in knowing the outcome. I used to Averno baby cream and it really did clear his face! So thank you so much.
