Where to take a 5 year old and a 10 month old for the day?

I have promised to take my 5 year old out for the day with the 10 month old. I will be on my own with them. I'd usually avoid big outings with the 2 of them and stick to the usual- park, library etc just for ease and probably lunch at home.

However, I've promised a "proper" day out.

Can anyone suggest places to go along with how to make the trip run relatively smoothly? The 10 month old tends to get quite grumpy and the 5 year old tends to fight for my attention during meal times when I need to tend to the 10 month old.

I get quite anxious so hoping to have a relatively calm day if at all possible!

Depends what you have near you. Farm Park, soft play, museum, some other local attraction, beach??

With mine at a similar age, I would have gone to a local farm park that also had an indoor soft play area and a cafe.

Whereabouts in the country are you? It's to be a lovely day. I second farm park with soft play, in our nearest you can picnic in an outside or the inside play areas so your older child can play while you all eat.
