dd2 said she wanted to live with another family. (i think she was joking)

I said fine. but i'll send you to live with a witch. (i was joking and laughing as i said it)

she has just come into living room sobbing that she doesnt want to live with another family.

Oops! Oh dear, poor dd. Still, you must be doing something right if she doesn't want to leave home - mine can't wait.

i must be marginally better than a witch. i asked if iwas a princess she said no, just a nice mummy.

right now I'd like to be living with another family too, but I know I don't really mean it! As Edam says, when push came to shove she knew she wanted to be with you!

wishingfourgotone · 01/07/2007 20:20

that doesnt mean your a bad parent!

IMO she was probably more frightened of her own feelings/what she herself said about wanting to live with another family than about your little comment about the witch. (NOT that I think it's a good idea, etc etc). IME the "I want to be adopted" line is most children's idea of the most powerful and shocking thing they can dredge up to express their darkest and angriest feelings, and it's natural that they feel scared and need reassurance afterwards. Just cuddle her and tell her that you would never ever ever let her go and live with another family because she is all yours

I remember when DS1 told me he didn't want to live with me he wanted to live with his real mummy.

I opened the front door, gave him a small bag with some clothes and his cars and said "Off you pop then. Someone out there must be crying if she hasn't got her real son. I'll keep watch for my real son"

Quelle surprise..... his response "No no no! You're my real mummy!"

So I closed the door. Job done!

Am just waiting to pack the suitcases for the DTs... not convinced I'd let them back in currently! [evil mother grin]

LadyVictoriaOfCake · 01/07/2007 20:24

oh i gave her a big cuddle and said she was all mine and i wouldnt let her live with any one else.

but oh boy do i feel bad still.
