Outdoor shoes in baby room at nursery - gross or not?

I’d appreciate your thoughts and experience - the nursery I’m considering sending DS to allows outdoor shoes in the baby room. This seems a bit gross to me, and I’ve visited other nurseries where they don’t allow it for hygiene reasons.

This nursery argues that it isn’t that bad but since DS is crawling I’m extra cautious about it.

What do you think?

I've used 4 different nurseries with my dc and they all allowed shoes in baby rooms. I didn't think twice about it tbh

Theorangeorange · 17/01/2019 22:12

My nursery doesn't allow it and I agree. I don't allow shoes in my own house for the same reason, gross, especially with babies rolling around.

I've had the opposite!
Only two nurseries I've ever used and neither allowed outdoor shoes in baby rooms.

Mine allowed outdoor shoes in the room, I didn't have a problem with it. But I don't expect people to take shoes off in my house and my dogs definitely can't take their feet off so didn't seem like a big problem really.

Ds’s nursery allows outdoor shoes. The kids have free flow to the Gardens so it would be a pain in the arse for the staff to be putting shoes on/off all day.

Yes, my nursery has special bubbles for the babies Hmm

Mumof1DS · 20/01/2019 19:13

I think it would be gross, but my nursery has a shoes off policy for the baby room. I'm pleased about it as my child rolls a lot and sucks his thumb. I also have a shoes off house and don't have pets.
Each to their own.

The chain I work for does not allow outdoor shoes in baby rooms - shoes off or shoe covers which are readily provided by the door to every baby room.

It isn’t great really and would make me question their Health and Safety policies and whether these were enforced.

I say that as an inspector of Nurseries.

You learn something new every day. Never knew this was a thing and wasn't a thing in daughter nursery

Sethis · 20/01/2019 20:33

How do you expect them to develop an immune system if you keep them in sterilised rooms all the time?

What, exactly, do you think they're going to catch? Typhoid? Black Death?

Unless the floor is covered in dog crap then I personally think you're nuts to care. Presumably you don't allow your baby outside, or to be on the grass at all?

Never would have crossed my mind as a thing!
