Hi can I give my 4 months and 2 week old baby cow and gate baby rice? It does say on the packet from 4-6months onwards. Just wanted to double check. Think I'm being a bit paranoid xx

If only parenting was all about following guidelines to the letter instead of using your instincts/common sense, then all these posters saying "No NHS advice is 6 months" without asking you about your baby would be the best parents ever... Hmm

Obviously, it depends on your baby. I weaned before 6 months, our baby was holding her head up steadily for indefinite periods, well into size 6-9month clothes, sitting up in a high chair, easily picking up objects and moving them to her mouth, and showing lots of signs of hunger.

Weaning before 6 months CAN be bad for baby, but it depends how developed your baby is. Have a read online if they are truly showing signs. Can they sit up on their own, holding head up, and move something to their mouth? If not then they're not ready. But blindly following guidelines isn't what parenting is about. There is evidence than weaning before 6m caused an increase in cases of IBD/gut problems in adults, but there's also evidence that late weaning causes an increase in food allergies. Do your own research and decide for yourself.
