Just wanting thoughts on this really. Does it take a village to raise / disapline your child or is it your responsibility / privalege to raise your own child how you see fit without unsolicited advice from your community.

I completely agree it takes a village. I was fortunate to grow up in a supportive extended family and community. I was cared for and exposed to a wide range of ideas and skills. This became more important to me and my parents as I went through my teens.

Most of the parents I have come across who disagree and are possessiveness of their children have been so to their and the child's detriment. And it is absolutely disastrous when it comes to parents with MH problems or who are abusive.Sad

Interesting food for thought. Thanks everyone for sharing.

I agree it needs to be a balance between 1being a positive influence but not undermining the parent by taking over.

I personally would rather be a friend to a child who is not mine and alow the parent to use their own judgement as its their responsibility and privilege unless they ask me.
