How old were your dc when they came out of their cot and went into a bed?

Hi my ds is 21 months and I was just wondering at roughly what age do the bars come off of their cot and they start sleeping in a bed, either small cot bed like he has or normal sized single.
What signs do they usually give you to show that they are ready to move into a bed? My ds has recently started waking in the night could this be a sign that he is now being restricted by the bars?
Hopefully someone can help me I have been looking after kids for 15 years but this is the first time I have had a cot related question as usually I don't have children at night time!! TIA

Oh, our plane stopped there on the way home. Looked like a great place to be, if a little hot & steamy. Do you like it?

My twin DDs were very young when I took the bars of their cot beds, about 12 months I think, because I found them fast asleep together in one cot in the morning, so one had obviously climbed out and in during the night. Thought it was safer to turn it into a bed.

My DD was 8mths old when she went into a single bed, i actually wish i'd done it sooner as she was always waking up with hands and feet through bars!

nappyaddict · 18/06/2007 12:17

darciesmum did you put her in a normal bed or a toddler bed and did you use a safety rail?

SANA · 19/06/2007 10:53

I have just moved my DS ( 27mths ) into a bed as baby no 2 on the way. I think he would have stayed in it for much longer & he has been fine. We got him a Z bed which folds into a sofa during the day as we have a small flat so it makes sense for us

I'm gutted that I have to kick DD23 out of her cot at 20 months as DC3 is going to need it. Just not worth buying another cot and she loves pretend sleeping in her sisters single bed so ... still I'm not looking forward to the fun and games that will ensue.

just a quick question please if i may be so bold? What do you do if your baby becomes too big for thier travel cot but is still in a cot at home?

hermykne · 19/06/2007 11:06

i cant get ds out of his cot and he is 3 end july, i have shown him lovely beds in shops but he doesnt want to part with his cot and nobody else is getting it.
he has always slept well in it and doesnt wake so i'll get a bed in the sales for him and he can have the option of both.

notsogummyanymore · 19/06/2007 11:08

pretty please?

quokka · 19/06/2007 11:13

notsogummy, my ds1 3yrs (big boy) can still sleep confortably in his samsonite pop up travel cot. I have also bought him (but not tried it yet) one of those ready beds, I just got the single size but you can get toddler ones with raised bumpers on the side. Not sure how easy it all inflates but we shall see eh!

hermykne · 19/06/2007 11:14

notso
if there still a baby wont they be okay in a double bed? are you staying in a hotel or something or someones house

ernest · 19/06/2007 11:19

notsogummyanymore why not try getting him used to normal bed + safety rail? How old is he?, Or a ready bed.

All 3 of mine wer out of cot and in cot bed + safety rail by 18 months

notsogummyanymore · 19/06/2007 12:16

ooh yes had thought about the rails, he still fits (just about) in hies travel cot but the ready bed is a good idea too. Is it one of those that you inflate? We're planning a holiday but stay over at relatives and friends as well quite a lot. He's diagonal in the travel cot at the mo so will be out of it quite soon i think. He's nearly two. Thanks v much! sorry for butting in.

Diplidophus · 21/06/2007 09:21

When we're on oliday we try to put in in his ready bed or in a single bed in hotel if provided. He invariably ends up in bed with us though.

we never bothered with safety rails, just put cushions down. He has fallen out just once.
