Growth spurts v due/birth weight

My lo was born at 37 weeks and now 9 weeks old and suddenly unsettled, wanting to feed more but is often fussy at the breast.
Trying to figure out what is wrong.

If born at due date we'd be hitting the 6 week growth spurt around now.

Trying to work out if the bigger growth spurts are timed from due date or birth weight

That’s an interesting question and honestly, I don’t know. Hopefully you’ll get a few more answers and we’ll find out.

As for being something wrong, nothing youvecsuggested so far is wrong. Has she just been fussy today?

Lo has been really fussy today. Crying ALOT where before has been calm and settled. If its a spurt that explains it but if not I worry something worse is bothering lo.

It could well be a spurt. Did LO have one at 6 weeks?

I'm not entirely sure, we had feeding concerns the that had lasted a few weeks so was feeding crazily then but we're over that and been fine for almost 2 weeks then this

If you’ve had feeding concerns, are you getting support from a Lactation Consultant or a BFC? Are you getting to any Bfing Support Groups?

If LO is fussy during feeding, have a read of this and see what you think. It might be worth ringing one of the Bfing Support lines in the morning too and talking this through with a BFC. Have you got the numbers? Smile

Feeding issues all resolved now, had lots of help from feeding support etc. Baby can now latch like a pro and drains the breast.

That’s good then. Is she still being fussy while feeding? Was the link of any use? Smile

Hehe fuzziness and crying has only recently started. The Kellymom site is brill but unfortunately doesn't lead me any closer to figuring out whats going on. 😕

Watching with interest as my LO was born a day short of 35 weeks. She arrived nearly 7 weeks ago but is constantly feeding the last two days, I swear there cannot be any milk in there but I'm just letting her try.

She had an acne/eczema flare up from 2.5 weeks which had literally cleared up in the last two weeks, so we aren't giving any dairy (I've stopped eating it and definitely can't give her formula) so I'm literally her only source of food.

She seems very cranky and hungry all the time and like you OP, I find it frustrating to know whether this is a growth spurt or not given her prematurity.

meant to add that the Wonder Weeks app refuses to acknowledge any leaps until their due date - the first is meant to be a at 6 weeks post due date so it does sound like what you're going through!

I still think that by phoning one of the BFing Helplines, they may be able to help. Have you got the numbers? Smile
