Just interested to know how you made the transition to grandparent care after maternity leave smooth? Did you have any tears when you left them or were they quite happy? Do you think they got stressed not having you about?

As you can probably tell by the questions I am feeling very anxious about it all!!!!

Gave baby to my mum in her car seat/carrier thing have her a kiss and went to work.

Called mum every hour (for my peace of mind - not baby) picked her up in the evening. I assumed that as she had successfully raised 3 kids to adulthood she would have a fair idea what to do.

Thanks for the reply. Had your mum looked after your LO by herself before? My mum visits a lot but I’m always there. Just wondering if alone time before I return to work would help with my LO transition.....

Started off leaving DS with gran for a couple of hours so he got used to me being away but also coming back, maybe 3 or 4 short breaks of 2-3 hours. Then gran came to my house for him waking up on my first day back at work and followed our own routine but in his own familiar surroundings, so it seemed normal to him albeit the fact I wasn't there, we repeated this again 3-4 times.... Now he can be dropped off with mostly anyone and is quite happy, just make sure gran knows your routines so if DC is unsettled gran has an idea of what DC expects should be happening next. Good luck!

Saw my mum 4 or 5 times a week during my maternity leave. She used to look after baby for an hour a week when i had a gym class. She had her over night a few tines when we had events. Just made it very normal so not even a big deal when i went back to work
