Hi. My 11 year old son started using WhatsApp recently. The only people he does it with are people that he knows from school and the children of close family friends. Today, he got a text saying 'Hi. My number's changed. Save the new one and delete the old one'. He asked who it was and the said 'Olivia, recognise me?. He didn't but asked if she was a girl who used to go to school with him (called Olivia). The response was "It's Amelia's friend - remember she introduced us?' We have a friend called Emilia so thought it was someone associated with her. My son asked where they had met and 'Olivia' replied that she would send a photo 'of us all together''. He said fine and was then sent a link. We were in the car at the time and he couldn't open it (thankfully). When we got to our destination, being curious as to who it was, I opened the link up and up popped two hard core porn photos. Has this happened to anyone else? Also what do I do now? I was going to report it to the police but then realised the country code for the number (I didn't check that until I'd seen the images) was from Russia. Should I report it to WhatsApp?? And is there anyway I can protect my son from this sort of thing going forward. I've already told him that if he gets any messages from unknown sources to bring it straight to me. Any advice very gratefully received.
