As it says really, I applied for a promotion as manager for a team i used to be in. I'm due back to work in 10 weeks and its part time so perfect. Its a hefty pay increase and i have no managerial experience but i know the job inside out. I thought i had a good chance as senior management have been pushing me to move up for ages. Posting internally closed on Monday but today its gone external and I've heard nothing Sad

I wouldn’t give up hope but it doesn’t mean they are looking to see what they can get in the market if only as a comparator. If they hire externally it will an extra 20pc in recruiter fees.

Jellybabie3 · 24/08/2018 19:51

Yeah so maybe I wouldnt be their first choice

Well not necessarily. Sometimes people don’t know how internal candidates bench in the market and so put an external advert or agent on it to see what else they can get for that job and money. It may turn out you are their first choice after doing this.

OK thanks. I will try to not feel disheartened!

Isn't there some 'rule' where jobs have to be advertised externally for legal reasons? Something to do with it will be seen to be jobs for the boys set up?

It could be worth a look

I’d it public sector? They may have to advertise externally.

ProfessionalBarren · 25/08/2018 11:38

As above I think some jobs have to be advertised first and then go to external advert straightaway. Fingers crossed for you.

Jellybabie3 · 25/08/2018 14:34

Hmm alot of jobs advertised and allocated recently in the company have been internal only so I am not sure that's the issue. I think I am the only person who applied though.
