Christening for nearly 5 year old DD - what should DD wear? White or not?

Trival post alert!!! Smile

My DD (who is turning 5 in November) is getting baptised shortly (C of E church).

What shall she wear? I have short-listed three dresses, one pale green and floaty, one a pale spotty number, and one white John Lewis bridesmaid dress. My heart was always set on the white one, but I don't want it to seem over the top. If I am really honest with myself, I think non-white would be more appropriate.

Do you agree? Anyone got advice on this, or experience of baptising a chiIld rather than a baby?

(As an aside, although I didn't get her baptised as a baby, I had always meant to, and then ended up waiting until I was going to church more regularly again. I only mention this as I know the vicar through my family quite well and don't want to turn up in a over the top white dress (even the lovely simple JL one) if a simple dress in another colour would be more appropriate for a 4 year old!!!)

Thank you for any thoughts Smile

Sorry I'm no help personally but maybe ask the vicar or a church elder what they think?

I was three when I was christened. I wore a pretty, but not out of the ordinary, summer frock, which I continued to wear that summer and the next.

What about something like the dress Princess Charlotte wore to Louis' christening? White with a blue floral pattern.

White bridesmaid's dress makes me think of First Communion rather than christening. Little Catholic girls in white frocks and veils.

Thanks, MissLingoss. So helpful! I have also had the image of First Communion dresses in my mind, and knowing that that’s not quite right for this occasion. I really appreciate your input. Thank you!
