Sounds a bit odd to me - have you met this person before? Never heard of nursery nurses doing developmental checks.

No it's what she signed herself as though, on a card from the GP's surgery, same office as the HV. Wonder what she wants

Yep, nursery nurses now do some stuff that health visitors did/do - it saves money as they'd paid less. I was a bit when some spotty 19 year old with an NVQ in childcare came round once to see if my DD was developing well.

I think at 3 months they look to see if baby follows you with their eyes, what their head control, muscle tone is like. Have you got your red book - should detail 3 month milestones in there?

when i was on placement with hv's they had nursery nurses on the team, they do loads of development stuff and help with bf

We have nursery nurses in this area too. They are brilliant and were fab when we needed advice. I think they are doing lots of development checks and also seeing babies at 3 months to chat about how things are and douing a post natal depression score. One of them was really supportive when I had probs bf - only person who really understood. Not slagging off my HV who was lovely but I think she was rushed off her feet. Lisa (NN) spent the time with me that the HV didn't have.

my hv comes out with a nursery nurse at the minute.Didnt do it last year but has been doing since dec apparently.

You'll find lots of areas have community NN's now, i'd love to get into that, but the jobs just don't seem to come up in my area

Thanks everyone! I'll let 'er in then

i found the nursery nurse who visited me was nicer and less patronising than HV. and she always recognises DS at the surgery and knows his name.
