Traveling with a 5 and 1/2 month old

Traveling to Spain in July. Baby will be 5 and 1/2 months old....looking for all of your tips and advice on making the flight as smooth as possible and managing the heat!

He's a hungry baby (so far!) so thinking of trying him on some solids a week or 2 before we go - good or bad idea?!

Thanks!!

I definitely wouldn’t start solids before you go. Besides adding in the (very small) risk of an allergic reaction or choking in a unfamiliar country, many babies take time for their digestion to adjust to solids, meaning sleep can be really disrupted for the first few weeks. The last thing you want on holiday! Also you won’t see any drop in milk feeds right away anyway and he’ll need all the hydration he can get in the heat.

I would plan to bring (hire) a wrap for the airport and plane. It will be a lifesaver.

Do you breastfeed? If so, can certainly use it to your advantage! We've taken 4 flights with our 5 month old and it certainly helped us. Also agree with pp regarding wrap- I used it on first flight when he got a bit upset, just hung around the back of the plane and he fell asleep very quickly

Thanks ladies!
The wrap is on my shopping list 😊
