ADVICE FOR A BABY WHO SUDDENLY WONT EAT PLEASE!

Hi my 6 month old baby boy has been eating solids for about 2 months and has always eaten everything I have put in front of him (and usually tries for more) but for the last two days has refused food and hasnt had any extra milk to make up for it, I assumed he would be starving and wake up in the night but he didnt and seems fine otherwise.
Im at a loss of what to do?

Oh don't worry. My DD is six and a half months and she refused food for seven solid days because she had a cold and was teething. They soon come back to it. As long as he is drinking plenty don't stress.

Is there much drooling going on btw? It's probably teeth you know.

Yeah I thought that his teeth have been playing him up since he was 10 weeks old but he isnt showing any signs of teething. Just worried cos he is not drinking much milk anymore either cos he wont have it but the hv said not to worry cos he is eating really well then all of a sudden he wants nothing, I made him 5 dinners last night!

If he's still having wet nappies, don't worry, he's getting enough. It probably is teeth - you often can't see them but if he's gnawing away at things, they are probably hanging out under the gum.

My DD got SIX in one day this week - she got her first two at 19 weeks and then these six just appeared after a hunger strike. I only realised when she bit my arm (ouch!) . Thank goodness it wasn't my nipple!

Don't keep offering him lots of food, it's pointless. If he's not a fussy eater, you will only encourage him to become one if he thinks he has a choice. If he's hungry, he'll eat

We are doing baby led weaning and we've found that while DD turns her nose up at anything babyish, she'll still go for garlic bread, meat or pasta, even if she's feeling rough (except for this past week, which given the number of teeth that popped out, I'm not totally surprised)!

Ah bless her wow that is alot of teeth for one baby!!
Actually now you mention it he did have some of my toast this morning so maybe he has had enough of baby food.
Thanks for the advice what you said about making him fussy is really true but hadnt thought of that!

LeBe - sorry, that probably sounded really condescending in retrospect, but seriously do have a go at real food, if he's been on the mush for two months he's probably really ticked off with it. Have a look at my DD's photos in my profile - click my name and then pictures - you really can feed them pretty much everything!

Dont be sill, I wasnt being sarcastic with what I wrote I really hadnt thought of that and when you said it made sense, you werent condesending at all.
I had a look at your piccies how funny she looked like she was loving that spagetti! I must admit Im terrible with him I worry about everything i give him, I follow baby recipes to the letter only give him baby finger foods (and occasionally carott sticks) and panic if he does that horrible choking thing if hes eaten too much or a big lump! Bless him he will be food phobic at this rate!!! I will see how he does with his breakfast its usually his favourit meal of the day! Thankyou again!

Ooh you don't mean choking, you mean gagging.

There's a world of difference. Choking involves turning blue because a piece of food has passed into the airway and can only be solved with back slaps/thrusts.

Gagging is where the baby has learned to get the food into his mouth and moved it to the back of the mouth (clever baby) but has not yet learned that the next step is to swallow.

If you can, try not to panic when this happens, otherwise he will to. My DD did that for a few times when she had proper food but it's quite rare now.

I've never bought a baby food book in my life. Babies are just small humans to me, it wouldn't occur to me to feed them anything different (although I don't offer my DH breastmilk on a regular basis ).
