Help with what baby should wear in sling

Hi. We are going on a walk with family tomorrow and I was planning to put my 3 week old in a sling (stretchy wrap one). The thing I don't know is what to put him in... I am hoping he'll go inside my maternity coat but need to work out two options, one if he's inside my cost, another if I just have a coat on but not fastened. Haven't had chance to try him inside the coat yet.

Forecast is sunny / cloudy and 8 degrees so warmer then today and not raining...

Should he just be in normal vest and sleepsuit or more?

So general rule is he needs one more layer of clothing than you, but the sling counts as a layer!

I found a big warm blanket scarf great when mine was very small in a sling. You can wrap it around your neck them cross it over the baby and even tuck it in the edges of your sling to keep the baby warm - but easy to whip off if either of you get too hot. I'd do that with baby in just a vest & sleep suit I think

Normal clothes plus hat.

I usually just put my baby in normal indoor clothes plus a hat. The sling keeps them warm with your shared body heat.

If it’s really cold outside then either have them under your coat, a blanket kind of tucked round the sling or a thin fleece sleepsuit over their normal clothes.

I think you're spot on - vest + onesie + hat. You can pull your coat around baby too if it gets windy

You aren’t really supposed to use a sleepsuit with a sling as the weight through the crotch and closed feet can put strain on their feet. Can you do a long sleeved vest, leggings, socks and a cardigan then big scarf over?

Sleep suits are fine just check babies toes arent pulled tight. If you find thats then case just use a bigger sleep suit. Im sure you would notice if toes are tight anyway you would feel legs are tight in the M position x
