Can you help with any good advice please, we're buying ds 1st pair of proper shoes, we're thinking of going to clarks but not sure what type to get, with it being nice and nearly summer we thought of sandels but are you better getting those from mothercare - the two strap velcro type, not sure what to do????

Oen toed sandals are not great for new walkers. They tend to trip up more

You could get him some Sandals from clarks. They do a good range that are not fully pen toed but have holes in IYSWIM and get some doodles (canvas types).

I always go to clarks for 1st shoes, I brought ds filled in shoes so his toes don't get stubbed etc. also clarkes etc check to ensure they can walk properly in them

I'm sure someone else will be along who can help more, but I found with dd that there were only about 4 stlyes that would have fit her in Clarks. They suggested the range and we chose the ones we liked best. Also - GET THERE EARLY!!! It's amazing how long it can take and if you're not in the queue early you could be there for ages.

Try not to go on a saturday weekdays if at all possible in school hours are far quieter.

Def filled in toes with a lightweight sole.

aww how sweet, 1st pair of shoes, we got a photo from clarks the day we got dds first shoes, not sure if they still do it anymore but mention it when you get there, or if you are really fussed take your own camera, and remember and put the box somewhere safe that way when hes outgrown them you can put them away and treasure them forever

sorry im such a over the top mum

4 styles - WOW, I am lucky if ds1 gets a choice of 2! Last time they just had nothing, thats not just in the shop but in the catalogue to order in aswell, that would fit his width, NOTHING, "sorry, we can't help you"

Jelley · 04/05/2007 18:38

DD1 was 6 before she got more than one pair of shoes to choose from, and we often had to go to 2 or three shops to get that one pair, CS.

We went to Brantano, I couldn't face Clarks and they have properly trained shoe fitters there (I know as my mate works there!)
We got 2 pairs, a solid patent filled in toe shoe with a buckle and a denim softer canvas shoe also filled in with velcro closing.

I tried sandals on her but she is still crawling when she gets tired so it was not good for her toes!

thegardener · 04/05/2007 21:06

thanks for the advice, hope we can find some that'll fit!

I don't like Brantano cos of their returns policy it is so hard whereas clarke are pretty good

highly recommend startrite, never liked clarks some reason. fits well for wide feet , me thinks
