Mine does. He won't stop playing with this boy, but he's so horrible to him. I don't know what to do really, the teachers are keeping an eye on them but I worry about his self esteem when the one he wants to spend his free time with is actually quite horrible to him. Sad

My DD is a bit like this. I worry constantly that her close friendship with 1 girl in particular is preventing her from making other friends. Of course I could be wrong - DD could be the class meanie, I just don't know. She seems happy enough and the teacher reports no issues so I'm trying to accept that the problem is mine, not hers.

I wouldn't mind so much if I thought he was happy and the child was kind to him. I don't really think that's quite the same worry. My son mixes well in class but always goes to the same group in their free time.

My son is the same. He is a rule follower but the naughty boys hold a fascination for him. I was talking to a mum with older boys and she said her sons didn’t develop close friendships until they were 10 or so. They clumped in groups until then. So I try not to worry but if I see behaviour I don’t like I talk to my son about it. You don’t want to have him get used to being put down! Or think it’s ok to talk about other people in a negative way.

Yes, I talk to him about it regularly. I try to get him to see that people who aren't kind to us aren't really friends. I hope it sinks in.
