Kids sports clubs and sweets

I may be behind the times, but is it commonplace for kids sports clubs to sell sweets?

My daughter tried a dance class this evening and clocked the sweet bags for sale on the way in. Class ended at teatime. First thing she said when she came out was that she wanted sweets, as it's teatime I said not before tea.

Why is a sport activity pushing such an unhealthy choice? My denial resulted in a meltdown, and I'm not sure we'll go back as I could do without having that argument every week. It was meant to tire her out, not lead to her being on a sugar high.

Does this happen everywhere?

I take DD1 swimming and she does gymnastics.
The swimming cafe that you walk through to get out is a Costa with added mini haribo bags (on the front of the counter at child's eye level) and two vending machines of crisps/sweets/chocolates.
The gymnastics club has a vending machine, sweet cones on the counter, and one of those barrel-shaped sweet vending machines.

So in my limited experience it seems normal! She often asks, but I just say no or that I haven't got any change. I always pack a small (healthier!) snack for her though as she is ravenous after both activities, and wouldn't make it home without a hangry meltdown.

Yes, we have this at karate too. I just always say no! It’s for fund raising normally.
