Are kids youtube channels damaging our kids? Or are they harmless?

I'm keen to know what the general opinion is on kids you tube channels.

Seems like every parent is trying to jump on this bandwagon and become the next toysandme.

Harmless and creative outlet?

In some ways it is inspirational to see creative kids interact with an audience. You tube is a great platform for that.

But kids just playing with toys with no structure to the videos seems a bit odd to me. I mean i'd rather my kids were learning or playing with their own toys to develop their imagination.

Channels that add value i think are those with structure. A clear purpose. Like for example: reviewing a toy is perfectly fine or showing kids how to use a toy or how to get the most out of it is fine by me. Entertainment videos are also fine.

But un-boxing stuff that has already been un-boxed a million times followed by random acts of play? These i feel could be damaging my kids creative development.

Perhaps i'm worried about nothing and it's all just totally harmless.

Having said that, I am not banning youtube in my house. Quite the opposite. I myself am getting more value from youtube than regular TV and watch youtube way more than any other entertainment medium now.

Anyway, would love to understand what other parents think.
