When did you tell your older children about the new baby?

Hi guys, I've got a five-year-old and I'm just wondering when you guys told older brothers and sisters that they were getting a new baby?

Unfortunately, I did have a miscarriage last year so I just wanted to wait until my 12 week scan until I tell my little boy, but I was just interested to see how many weeks you were when you told older siblings?

We waited until I was about 14 weeks to tell my 7yo step son. We wanted to wait as long as possible so the pregnancy didn't seem as long for him, but at the same time wanted to give him time to adjust/ask questions. We had planned on waiting until nearer the 20 week mark but I was showing very early.

I am sorry you lost a baby to miscarriage. Please don’t tell your child they are getting a new baby. Tell them you are pregnant.

As soon as I’d had a scan showing a heartbeat. I figured if I miscarried after that dc1 would be better off knowing why I was miserable and having the chance to understand these things sometimes happen and it’s ok to be sad about losses - so to get some positive out of it.
