Now I'm not actually there, picking them up from school and monologuing "shoes, coat, book bag" etc they just seem to loose something every day. This week we have lost a new set of swimwear, a lunch box (with lunch uneaten inside), a club cap (can't compete without it), an $80 pair of goggles (so upset about these), not to mention socks and cardigans. One day the 9yo cheerfully came home without his school bag or lunchbox having left them in the classroom. The 5yo came home 3 times last week without shoes (hot country, so not as bad as uk in November, and we found them all in the end, but still).

The whole thing is making me feel that I'm the worst person in the world for working, and my children are obviously not coping or being adequately cared for. I'm doing everything I can. I use lovely childcare, I get up at 6 to get the day ready, i get a chunk of work done after bedtime every night so I can be taxi to activities every afternoon. It's not enough though, I guess.

It’s so hard. I had au pairs who of course lost everything as much if the children, it began to feel as though I was literally just working to replace all the stuff that kept getting lost. I gave up, I work from home now ?

It's good for your kids for you to delegate the responsibility of sorting themselves out , making sure they have all their kit etc.

Just reiterate to them that they need to be sure to bring home their kit/shoes/lunchbox, and they'll get the hang of it. (And make sure it's all labelled)

You don't want to be doing it for them when they've left home!
