I saw the video philip defranco made on this subject. I came across this with my own kids on YouTube kids and I've uninstalled it as the disturbing content seems to flow thick and fast through there more so thanks to these sickos and autoplay but it really is a rabbithole it seems. It's such an important topic thought mumsnetters might be interested.

Very late in the process of making this I decided to change the name, largely because the moment I made the original title "YouTube and the Business of Exploiting Children" public in a promotional Tweet I realized that there was an entire constellation of related issues that I wanted to talk about. From channels that exist to get kids hooked on gambling to parents subjecting their children to abusive conditions as "pranks", there's a lot of shady stuff going on. In that context, weird spam and unsettling videos about poop didn't rank high enough to warrant burning a title that good.

There was another thread about this and an article popped up on my Facebook feed describing the writer's misgivings about clickbait videos.

its a really interesting and disturbing subject at the same time. and i dont buy the whole 'its just teribul' parents' view...its a convinient way to silence patents with real concerns. i stuck an episode of pj masks on for my child recently and the next video that my child looked at turned out to be a grown man pretending to be a baby with a potty full of sweets , why is that depraved shit even floating around? it was quickly noticed and turned off but still .

Thanks for the Dan Olson video - that was really interesting. Particularly that he tracks down a specific multichannel network on YouTube which hosts thousands of these vids.

He states that a multichannel network needs a human at YouTube to go through acceptance of its channel.
