How often do you take your LO to baby clinic

My ds has just turned one and i still take him occasionally (every 6-8 wks maybe)as i like having a record of his weight and i find their helpful if im unsure about anything. My dp thinks i should go more often and it just made me wonder how often other parents go? Clearly we're the only parents in our circle!!

went every week when DS was tiny just to get out of the house. Last time i went was for his 8 month check where he got a U (unsatisfactory) as he doesn't roll FFS ! Needless to say we shan't be going back as he is happy, healthy and thriving

BdumBdum · 04/04/2007 16:10

not rolling...tut tut must try harder !! hee hee. there is defo an element of feeling like a naughty kid if you/ your lo doesnt quite reach their (sometimes questionable) markers, i realised quite quickly that so long as he was healthy and happy i could just ignore the other stuff

With dd I went every couple of weeks for quite a while as she had failure to thrive and was referred to paediatrican - she had to be regularly weighed.

With ds I went a few times but by the age of 1 I had stopped pretty much. Used to just pop in and get hime weighed every six months but never spoke to HV (didn't want to). He is now 3 and I don't bother as I have lost his red book

I went every fortnight just for weigh-in when he was less than 3m, then about once a month until 6months and then twice since (he's now 10m), I only go if I have a need for something e.g. eczema cream. And I like to know roughly what he weighs so I can feel justified calling him a heffalump

compo · 04/04/2007 16:29

lots with first
with 2nd only went for injections

raspberryberet · 04/04/2007 16:31

Apart from the routine development checks (most of which they'd stopped by the time dd was old enough) I didn't take either of them - ever. They were both happy and healthy, and that was enough for me.

ThisEasterTime · 04/04/2007 16:35

I've got first-time-mum-itis and used to go every fortnight up until his 1st birthday....now i go every month he is now 17 months. I had a nice HV too....

Taylormamaloveslindtbunnies · 04/04/2007 16:52

bdum - you are right - if he is healthy and happy that is fine ... also unfortunately great HVs are few and far between which is another reason i avoid baby clinic

MuffinMclay · 04/04/2007 16:56

DS is just coming up to 12 months, and I last took him at the start of December. I don't really have any need to go. He is growing fine (grows out of clothes), and I don't need to know his actual weight. It is a 12 mile round trip, and I can think of 101 better things to do on Tuesday morning.

When he was first born I took him every week or 2 weeks, mainly to get out of the house.

megandsoph · 04/04/2007 16:56

With dd1 I took her when I was told, around every 2 weeks.

DD2 it went completly out of the window. I took her every two weeks for the first month or so and then never went back. If I had any concerns I went to my gp which wasn't often.

hana · 04/04/2007 17:13

with first it was every 2 or 3 weeks
with second less often - she was referred v early to paed. for poor weight gain....haven't been back since 12 months when they told me she was gaining too much too quickly ( she is 2)
with third, not since 5 weeks, she is almost 7 months now.

lulumama · 04/04/2007 17:15

DD is 20 months... i used to take her every other week, as she went through periods of not eating, so i went for reassurance, and my HV is ace..when she got to 15 months, HV said not to bring her so often as she was clearly going to stay petite, so every 3 months really..

as long as baby is happy, healthy, etc..the weight is not the be all and end all

catnip · 04/04/2007 21:04

I took him for the first few weeks and now I never bother, all they do is weigh him and he is healthy and growing at a rate of knots.

eclipse · 04/04/2007 21:21

I only went for ds's jabs so that was the only time he was weighed. Otherwise he looked okay and appetite okay so didn't see the point. Really liked the HV though and it was nice to know she was available if needed.

Hilllary · 04/04/2007 21:23

Never.

I have my own scales and weigh my dd at home. Hate bloody clinics.

yomellamoHelly · 04/04/2007 21:23

Took ds1 once. Have never taken ds2 (3 1/2 months).

UCM · 04/04/2007 21:24

Did with first one DS, but I have never taken DD.
