Urgh! So it turns out my son (8) thought he was only going to his new school for one day.

He is devastated that he has to go back again tomorrow. Sad I really don't know how I missed that he thought this. He came with me to buy new uniform, school bag, shoes, pencil case etc. He watched me put his name on every thing and I explained it was so that he didn't get it mixed up with anyone else's. He told me he hoped his teacher was nicer than in previous school and that he was a bit nervous about starting a new school. We talked about making lots of new friends and how things would be different (rules, teachers, friends, homework etc) but that it would be ok as he would get used to it really quickly.

He came out and as soon as we got in the car he broke down into tears. I honestly think he was just overwhelmed with everything being new. He said one girl told him he had problems (a sore point for him as he does indeed have numerous "problems" so an unfortunate phrase for her to use). He said it's awful and he never wants to go back. I know it wasn't awful at all. Just different but I'm really annoyed for him. I so wanted his first day to be a good experience. He says he isn't going back. (He is)
