......any advice on how to change this? They eat plenty of veg but I would like them to eat more fruit and although they drink plenty they are both reluctant to drink water.

Dont buy squash, then they HAVE to drink water, than buy squash as a treat, once they have adapted to water.
Offer fruit and then a bicsuit or whatever it is they are eating for snacks.

NuttyMuffins · 01/04/2007 16:09

Mine are the same, will eat veg and drink juice but only tend to eat fruit if I don't give them an alternative which is what I have started doing.

If they say they are hungry now, I offer fruit and if they say no then I say they aren't hungry then, and normally then they will have some.

my thoughts exactly. You buy the food, and you offer them the choice- they may not like it, but they will adjust

And my kids now come and say can I have a banana then a biscuit, or an aplle then some crisps. They KNOW I will say no if they just ask for the biscuit, but yes if they have some fruit first

Water down the fruit juice and keep gradually increasing the dilution

serve water with ice cubes and a straw in a nice glass

Take them to a greengrocers and let them handle and choose their own fruit

'Pick your own' incredibly popular with children at the right time of year

make mini fruit kebabs and let them thread pieces of fruit on skewers

have a chocolate fondue and dip fruit in

fruit salad or fruit plate with small pieces cut up attractively often more popular

add fruit to food such as coleslaw (apple and raisin is nice)

dried fruit in cakes and biscuits, scones

baked fruit such as baked apple, rhubarb crumble, baked bananas

add fruit to yogurt or serve fruit with cream or ice cream

have a full fruit bowl and let them see you helping yourself throughout the day!

mine eat fruit now, before they wouldnt. can you switch them to fruit smoothies?

McCadburysDreamyegg · 01/04/2007 16:12

Do you think I should be as cold turkey as that Charlie - was wondering wether to use less and less squash until they were just about drinking water anyway and then cut it out?

I dont often have juice in the house so all the kids that come here, who are Juice Drinkers at home who "wont drink water" do drink it here when they realise its that or go thirsty!

McCadburysDreamyegg · 01/04/2007 16:14

Fair enough - if it works then I'll give it a go!

Banana and custard with chocolate sprinklies.
I dont have a smoothie maker, only an orange squeezer and we have a fair bit of fresh OJ.

BettySpaghetti · 01/04/2007 16:18

I know its a while yet but in the summer go strawberry and raspberry picking -I can guarantee they'll come out of the field with faces smeared in juice from eating the fruit

In fact do you have any fruit farms that are open to the public by you? We have a great one that has a nature trail round the orchards which is great for the children to see the fruit being grown. They can pick their own from the trees or from the farm shop.

McCadburysDreamyegg · 01/04/2007 16:19

They don't really do pyo here (Cyprus) but it's strawberry season now and there are little huts by the sides of the roads which sell the most fantastic strawberris but I just can't make her eat them!

charliecat · 01/04/2007 16:21

Whats available now for PYO? last weekend I drove in and came out a little tub of icecream because the bushes looked empty.

BettySpaghetti · 01/04/2007 16:22

FrannyandZooey · 01/04/2007 16:23

The chickens are roam around a field but they have little wooden huts/houses where they wander in and out of to lay.

The huts are designed with flaps that you can lift to get the eggs.

charliecat · 01/04/2007 16:34

Love the thought of pick your own eggs Dont think they have them at our PYO

dan4han · 01/04/2007 16:37

I swear someone round her has chickens or something because i swear i can hear a cockrel.

FrannyandZooey · 01/04/2007 17:59

McD you did know I was joking, right?

I am just so deeply envious of being able to eat big fat ripe strawberries right now...
