Babywearers...what do you think of this carrier?

Hiya, am thinking about changing my carrier (currently have the freedom sling). I've seen this item on ebay and cant quite make up my mind about it. Your opinions would therefore be greatfully recieved. My lo is 8 months old and about 13lbs 7oz ish. So would get a lot of wear from it. I like the fact you can wear it on your hip.

Am rubbish at doing links so here is the item no:

Really would be greatful if you could take the time to have a look and let me know. Thanx

Pink

I don't know about this, It's the one strap across the top that makes me think as I am in the middle of replacing my sling as it pulls on my shoulder, (DD is 13 months). I would rather have something with 2 straps.
Also I am not sure about the way the baby's legs are hanging down rather than being supported at the hips, but DD has funny hips!

Having said that, it's not that expensive and looks really comfy and padded....and I love the hood as a support, that looks really good for feeding, sunshade etc

Don't suppose that helps much though!

Hey Pinkdolly, I too (like Chirpygirl) am trading my single strapped sling for a 2 shoulder strap for my 10 month old.

Have currently hired a mei tai from bigmamaslings for £10 and then hiring a Ergo also from them to make a decision.

Both of these have hip carrying positions and the fact you can try before you buy is a godsend.

The one you are looking at seems good especially for the price, and you can always re-sell it on ebay!!!

It just looks like a fancy version of a baby bjorn type thing but for a hip carry.
The baby is dangling from its crotch as opposed to a mei tai or something where the baby is actually in a natural sitting position.
I have a Mei Tai well have 2 actually have skimmed them down a bit lol used to have more and they are fantastic versatile and very cofortable.
They are all slightly differently cut so trying one does not necessarily mean you will like them asll but they are fantastic carriers.

has potential to be reasonably comfy for mum - shoulder strap combined w/waist belt is a good combo for older babies/toddlers imo. but that's if it can be adjusted right - i'd want the strap much lower down, on my hips not waist, and buckle carriers can be notoriously difficult to get adjusted just so.

looks very uncomfy for baby - they're dangling from their crotch rather than seated as they would be in a fabric sling, ergo or mei tai. i wouldn't buy for that reason alone.

if you really like the hip carry you can do one with an ergo or mei tai and then you have the option of a 2-shoulder carry which you'll be wanting pretty soon if you're planning to keep carrying further downt he line (although i think the ergo hip carry is a bit of a fudge tbh). my favourite for this style of carry would be a short woven wrap sling (or 2.5+m of any sturdy cloth), but that doesn't have quite the mei tai versatility, unless you use a longer wrap and deal with the tails.

thanx for your advice. My neck has been a bit achey recently and I really struggled with my ring sling in the week (but did put it on in a bit of a rush). I think perhaps 2 straps is the way to go. I really like the look of the mei tai. Might look around a bit.
