Does anyone else's child act up to show off to their friends?

DS2 (7) had a friend over yesterday, a rare treat as we live in a country where school finishes rather late, so not a lot of time for after school play visits.

DS was loud, obnoxious, rude, talked back to me all afternoon and was mean to his brother. Things like saying loudly to friend "oh my brother is always annoying me, he's such a pain". He's never normally like this to DS3. He kept trying to get into everything he knew he wasn't allowed to do, i.e. nick sweets from the cupboard, jump on my bed... At one point he got throughly overexcited and ran screaming into my room and put my pants and bras on his head to dance around in!! I ended up having to be quite firm and sent him to his room. Friend was as sweet as can be, and a little bemused at DS's behaviour.

Is he just too young and over tired for play dates? I was so embarrassed by his behaviour today, but I've noticed he does have a tendency to act up to show off in front of friends. It happens, but to a lesser extent when I pick him up from school.

Anyone else? Or any advice please?

Oh gosh yeah. Kids are a pain when they have an audience.

Thanks for the reply! Glad to know it's not just mine at least!
