dd2 is 2 and a couple of months. HV says I should start 'showing her the potty'

but it is a pita. She wants to sit on the toilet for ages wiping herself with endless bits of tissue shouting 'my wee wee' but she doesn't do this damn wee wee or even sit still long enough to try, just hops on and off a lot

it takes ages

then she runs around without her nappy on screaming 'my wee wee' when you try to put it back on

I think she just wants to copy us rather than actually go; there are no signs or anything

I don't want to bother yet. I can't be arsed trying to train a mad child. Can I just keep her in nappies for a bit longer? What's the rush exactly?

I agree with waiting until they are ready.

We are sort of starting with Jessi now (she is 2.7) and she can do it fine in the house, only 2 or 3 accidents so far, but anywhere else and its a melt down.

She knows what the potty is for, and uses it well. We also reward with a sticker each time.

I cant see her being out of nappies completely until she is about 3

Leave her in nappies!

I sort of started dd at that age, mainly because all the other kids of her age on another board I use were doing it so I thought I should. She wasn't too bad at all, and understood it quite well but she absolutely hated knickers and refused point-blank to wear them!

So, I left it for a bit, and when she was 2y6m she decided she wanted to do it, and was fabulous, hardly had any accidents. Also stayed dry at night a month later, so no nappies at all since then.

A friend was determined to get her child trained right after 2nd birthday (likes to be the first at everything!) and went at it full throttle. Child made good initial progress and then spent 3 months having accidents all the time before my friend gave up and waited another 5 or 6 months to start again.

They're all so different, just leave her a few months and sod the HV advice.

At 3y4m my dd 'trained' herself. Told me she didn't want nappies anymore and took herself to the toilet. Some 'accidents' for 2 days and then fine since. I was beginning to get worried when she reached 3 but decided to follow her lead. She was big enough to use the toilet with a step and so we never had to use a potty for her.
