On your baby's 1st birthday

No one will see all those cuddles in the dark
The shhhhing, the patting, the feeding, pureeing, and trips to the park
No one will hear the gentle songs sung just before bed, the countless piles of washing, nappies and stories being said
No one will see the worried googling when you don't know what's wrong
They won't see those bottles being washed and those clean outfits that didn't last long
No one will see you pacing, rocking then stroking that tiny face
Or the nappy disaster that just took place
No one will see those trusting eyes relying solely on you,
The little fingers clasped gently around yours even when you don't know what to do
It's takes so much love and patience to get them to one
And you should be incredibly proud of the parent you have become x

It's just been me and you kid
Me and you in those early days struggling to latch
Me and you when you the tears rolled down my cheeks when you refused to feed for a while
It's just been me and you kid
Me and you in the quiet of the house at 4am as you gently tugged at my breast
Me and you last thing at night -when you sleepily dozed off and rested your head on my chest, fingers curled around mine
It's just been you and me kid
Me and you every 2 hours for those first few months
Me and you growing together- you growing bigger from my milk and my heart growing bigger from you
It's just been me and you kid
Me and you for longer than I thought or planned
Me and you until now
There was always going to be a last time for me and you kid
I've loved our journey and my heart aches for that precious time back
It's a new chapter for me and you kid
Thank you for this time - my heart is full and I'll always remember when it was just you and me
