How should I dress my baby in a sling?

We're going to the farm today and taking DD2 who is 4 months old and weighs around 11lb. I will have her in a stretchy wrap sling. What should I dress her in so she doesn't get too hot or too cold? I've not really been out with the sling since the weather turned colder. TIA.

Is she inside your coat or outside?

If inside obv she'll be kept warm by you so I'd go with indoor outfit plus hat.

If outside I'd go with a pram suit and hat/hood I thibk

I don't think pram suits are recommended for slings due to potential overheating even if they are outside the coat though I'm no expert.

My sling for my 4month old baby only arrived yesterday so have yet to use it but I'd be planning on having her in normal indoor clothes (which includes a long sleeve vest) plus cardigan and hat. Nothing that would leave ankles exposed like leggings and socks - I would put tights on under the leggings instead.

Please don't ever use a pramsuit in a sling. Your baby will be fine in whatever they would wear indoors, plus maybe a hat and some socks/booties. Most wrap slings are 3 layers of material plus your body heat, they would roast in a pramsuit.

If the sling is outside the coat, the baby may need a pram suit - obv it's sensible to check their temperature occasionally, and you do need to make a judgment on what's best given your local temperature, wind chill, and how warm your baby generally is.

Perhaps for a ssc/buckle carrier but ni way would you need a pramsuit inside a stretchy wrap. My DS was born in January and he'd be in a vest, baby grow and fake ugg boots and after be too hot after we'd walked a fair distance. A pramsuit on a small baby is also likely to starfish them (stopping them having a proper m configuration where bum lower than knees).

It's the extremities you need to focus on, so hat and extra layers on feet/legs (arms are inside the stretchy). Leg warmers, moccasin-sock things, or extra socks. I find welly socks for toddlers good for babies in slings!

My son was born in mid winter. I carried him daily in the sling until he was 12kg.
He wore indoor clothes and booties and hat.
I wrapped a pashmina etc around the sling. It could be layered up as required and removed when needed without disturbing him.

Thanks everyone. I thought a pram suit would be too much in the sling but didn't know what would be a good alternative. I went with a vest, tights, socks, babygrow and a hat and I wore a long cardigan so I could wrap it around her if need be. The only problem was that when I then had to get her out to feed her she was cold so I had to put her little coat on.

I was out with my 4 month old in an ergo sling today, she was wearing vest, long sleeved top, tights, leggings, and a kind of padded hoodie, hat, down bootees and mitts. Seemed to be a decent temperature as she sweats when too warm. I'm finding it hard to judge what's enough/ too much.
But do know that pram suits are a no no.

Depends on the suit and the sling really.

I put DD in a star snug.

My ds is nearly six months and if we are going to be outside for long wears normal indoor clothes plus a jumper, hat and all in one fleece suit thing. Its not padded like a pram suit so its ok I think.
