My 13 month year old poos everytime he drinks full fat milk help please?

Hi my 13 month old was introduced to cow's milk gradually when he turned 1, I was mixing with breast milk because I had to wean him off the breast.

He is on full fat milk on it's own and it just makes him poo.... Runny stools, sorry about the detail.

What alternatives can I give him other than full fat milk?
I don't really want to give him formula and I am aware that he should only be having full fat milk.

I even switched to arla big milk this week but he is still having the same problem.he loves drinking his milk, he is not teething, he is not ill, has no fever or other illness etc

It is definetly the full fat milk, I just think he little body can't handle all that milk

My nephew was like this, turned out he is lactose intolerant. It took until he was 4 before the Dr believed them. He has lacto-free now. Could be something for you to think about.

My DD was the same, with our GP's support I switched to semi skimmed and that helped. She was eating a varied diet and not dependent on the calories in the milk.

My dd was the same. But was fine on semi skimmed. She ate other foods so her overall intake of calories was fine.

Dd has also been on semi skimmed since weaning from bf - if they get all vitamins/calories from other sources then it's not a big deal

mine were both on oat milk

or you could go back to formula for a few months.

I want to make sure he is getting as much fat as possible. His diet is good so maybe I am being OCD About it....

Can I get goats milk easily from supermarket

I would get some advice from a gp in all honesty. I have a dd with allergies and it is difficult to know what is best. Maybe his body just needs to adjust but could even be dairy allergy.
As for lactose intolerance, I thought my dd had that and put her on special milk and everything however regretted it in the end as apparently you can have a tolerance to x amount so best to still have some rather than none dependant on your own capabilities else your tolerance level can depleat. Apparently breast milk contains lactose anyway and so does goats milk but I have read goats milk can sometimes be managed quite well if you have a lactose intollerance (it does have less lactose). They are not quite sure exactly why people manage it better.
I know dairy allergies definately cause loose stools. What about other allergy symptoms. Eg eczema asthma?

I'm curious, why do you want him to get as much fat as possible? How is his diet generally?

I live in the US so the advice here seems to be a bit different, but the peadiatrician told us that DS (now 16 months) could have either full fat or semi skimmed milk no problem (apparently new advice as it was previously full fat only for los) He is not low weight and he eats a balanced diet and I assume those are big factors. We choose to give him full fat milk, but many of my friends with similar age toddlers give them semi skimmed. That might not solve your problem at all, but just so you know that there are lots of perfectly healthy American toddlers drinking semi skimmed milk.

I want to give him as much fat because healthy fats supply nutrients that are essential for growth and are necessary for energy as well as the absorption and metabolism of some nutrients. Fats are vitally important to the brain, which is 70 percent fat. They are used for building the membranes around every cell in the body and also play a role in the formation of hormones

Crazy how it's different in different countries

Nice to know that advice in USA is that you give semi skimmed milk and there are loads of healthy babies in US

Ps penfold my LO has a well balanced diet but as a drink I wanted to give him full fat milk...

WHy not try formula to see how he reacts?

Chloe he is does suffer from asthma or eczema... Just very loose stools after being on full fat cows milk as a drink since he was 1 in stages.. He started off with one drink a week, then two the next week and then three the third week, am, before afternoon nap and before he slept at night.

I have now reduced his milk drinks to one in the morning and one at night.

All the supermarkets in my local area sells goats milk. Even the Small tesco garage stocks it, so,it's easy available. I use goats milk in all my cooking now due to a milk intolerant teen, and the only thing that we haven't had much success with is pancakes (although Yorkshire puddings are fine).

You can also get goats milk in different 'strenghts'. Full,fat etc.

Yeah I may have to try formula milk if he keeps on pooing

Am I allowed to give him Soya milk - the full fat version with the added vitamins and calcium?

I'm like this with full fat milk - also ice cream, cream, custard etc. I wouldn't say I am dairy/lactose intolerant, but I do have to limit my intake.
