Did you give milk in a beaker/cup/bottle at 1 years old?

Was your baby okay with your choice?

All 3 of my dc have had their milk in a beaker from 12 months with no real upset. My son is coming up to 14 months and usually has just one beaker of milk per day just before bed, he eats like a horse though and has a very varied diet, my daughters are 11 and 6 so can't remember exactly but I'm pretty sure they were still having a cup of milk in the morning at this age.

I've been wondering this too. Sorry to join in OP! My ds takes very little water from either of his sippy cups and I worry he won't take milk if I stop using bottles. What do you mean by a beaker?

Bubblebloodypop · 12/09/2016 20:22

From a cup/beaker, I gave the occasional bottle when he was sick or upset.

Nah, mine had bottles until they were three. Obv only at bedtime and first thing as they got bigger. They would never have milk out of anything other than a bottle.

MooPointCowsOpinion · 12/09/2016 20:25

In a boob. My kids both drank from sippy cups or those rubbery straws in bottle type cups, from before a year old though. They got the hang of straws very quickly, think they're easier than sippy cups that can spill too.

isthistoonosy · 12/09/2016 20:29

Dc1 had a Sippy cup from 10 months for his milk (earlier for water) tbh I think I could have left him by a cow and he would gave worked it out, as he is a real milk monster.
Dc2 bottle for milk until about 14 months, then a straw cup now at 20 months moving to an open cup.

neversleepagain · 12/09/2016 21:15

We introduced a sippy cup with water from 6 months and the same sippy cup with cows milk from 12 months. No issues.

janethegirl2 · 12/09/2016 21:18

My dd only drank fluids either from breast or teaspoon till around 18 months.

HopperBusTicket · 12/09/2016 21:19

My 1 year old has milk in a bottle (morning and bedtime) and water from a Tommee Tippee First Cup. He drinks his milk fairly quickly with no messing around and doesn't have a bottle in bed (we do bottle downstairs then upstairs for bed) so I don't think the sugar is on his teeth for toooo long.

I think we moved his brother off bottles for milk at about 15 months.

Laineymc7 · 12/09/2016 21:28

My little girl is one and she drinks out of a beaker all day apart from bed time when she has milk in a bottle. I'm thinking of changing this to a cup soon too.

albertcampionscat · 12/09/2016 22:09

DS1 had a beaker from 6 months. Complete bottle refuser.

newtothenet · 12/09/2016 22:15

We used a doidy cup from six months. First with water then from a year with milk (previously breastfed so never used a bottle and I didn't see the point in introducing one at a year old).

museumum · 12/09/2016 22:16

Sippy cup. He refused all bottles.

FreeButtonBee · 12/09/2016 22:18

Sippy cup (the basic Tommy tippee ones) with water from 6 months and then cows milk from around 11mo in prep for me going back to work. He's still BF when I'm around but am out of the house 11 hours a day 4 days a week so sippy cup it is at all other times.

BeMorePanda · 12/09/2016 22:22

Neither of mine used bottles.
Sippy cups (basic tommee tippee by far the best) and then plastic cups. Forget the fancy sippy cups - all waste of money.

2015mom · 12/09/2016 22:36

So you can out milk in the Tommee tippee beaker that's good to know I better buy one. I will give him milk from Doidy cup most times but at least with a beaker I can give it to him and he can drink it himself

I was also able to train the DC from a very young age, to be able to flip the sippy bit up when they wanted a drink, and down when they were finished - so no leaking Grin

2015mom · 13/09/2016 20:25

That's really good bemorepanda

Just to add that the earlier you give them a doidy cup, the sooner they can drink themselves. My daughter is 1 1/2 and has been drinking unsupervised for months now from either a doidy or open plastic cup (obviously this took some practice and she couldn't do it at 6 months when we first gave her it!)

littleducks · 15/09/2016 19:50

Agree about training them young.

3littlebadgers · 15/09/2016 19:55

My 7.5 month DS has his water from a shot glass at the moment. It was a temporary measure as my DH had the car and his sippy cup was left inside, but actually it works wonders. It is a perfect size for his mouth.
The glass is chunky though, and he has no teeth! Grin

villainousbroodmare · 15/09/2016 19:55

I introduced sippy cup and bottle when day weaning at 5 months. Bottle was phased out by 10 months. The cup with the flexible straw seems the least messy for the car etc. I think he was holding cups himself from about 10 months.
