dd was a week and ds was about 10 days

over here we're told under no circumstances to bath them til the cord stump heals completely. dd's fell off at 3 days and ds's at 8 days and i waited for the wound to heal

DS1 and 2 don't remember. DD, about 10 days old after stump fell off- I have one of those tubs (it is called a tummy tub, and hers is pink and glittery ) that belgo describes, and it was great when we could bath her - it calmed her down if she was windy and she knows now that it is off to bed v soon afterwards

belgo · 23/01/2007 13:08

pink tulips - where are you? I'm in Belgium and no one has ever said anything about making sure the stump has healed before bathing them.

ireland

was under orders not to bath them for at least a week... longer if cord wasn't healed.

nappyaddict · 23/01/2007 15:55

yes we were told to give sponge baths until the belly button had healed too.

sweetkitty · 23/01/2007 16:00

DD1 about a day old but that was to try and wake her up to feed.

DD2 about 3-4 weeks old.

My mother said it was disgusting and that newborns whould be bathed and dressed before anyone has a cuddle WTF?

nappyaddict · 23/01/2007 16:03

i know someone who just gave sponge baths until their baby was 2 months because her cord stayed on until then.

Gemmitygem · 23/01/2007 16:44

mine's had a bath a night since birth, with just oil in, but more as a play thing/to give him a bit of a different experience, kicking and splashing etc.. now 15 weeks and really starting to love it, specially if I'm in there with him swooshing him around!

crayon · 23/01/2007 17:10

DS1 - 2 days
DS2 - first day
DS3 - first day

They all love baths

crayon · 23/01/2007 17:13

Plus, it's so much quicker to bath than top and tale ime.

We don't use soap on any of them though, just aqueous cream.

shonaspurtle · 23/01/2007 17:19

He was a week old I think - tbh I kind of forgot in the first few days

We bath him every 2/3 days now and still just use plain water. Both dh & I had baby excema so I want to avoid chemicals on his skin as far as possible. He still smells gorgeous to me!

My mum thinks I'm terrible though not giving him a bath every night as part of his "routine"...
