Anyone gone down the route of less toys

We've an almost 6 year old DD and a 3 year old DS and seem to be drowning in toys (albeit they don't actually seem to have that much compared to some friends).

I'm really tempted to start clearing some stuff out but am worried they'll have nothing to play with!! As daft as it sounds I'm mainly worried about when they have friends round - I don't them to be the borings kids with no toys! Has anyone else really reduced toys?

I should mentioned that I didn't really have friends over when I was a kid so I may be lacking in a bit of perspective

We rotate toys, with the majority boxed up and away bar a few accessible boxes and baskets. I change the contents every few weeks.

I would recommend that you read simplicity parenting it makes so much sense! Toying with the idea of no tv too but realistically think we will just try to restrict it!

That would be my ideal Tired but whenever we try we never quite get it to work! How do you split things??

We have very little toy wise compared to most people we know. They use and play with everything. No storage issues or toys everywhere. No to here either simply as Dh and I never had one before children and haven't got around to buying one yet. They are 5 and 6 years old.

That's really interesting planbwastaken thanks for posting, I find as they get older they do it themselves, but youngest ds is coming up to 1.5 and his toys are everywhere, he also doesn't want to play with them so I think I'm going to go with these suggestions

I've just had a massive toy clear out at weekend. Oldest is almost 9 so doesn't play with toys as such, mainly just Lego. Youngest is 4. We had ran out of space to the point we had no where to put toys at end of the day so had a permanent pile in corner of living room even though we have a whole cupboards dedicated to toy storage and numerous storage units!! We now have 4 tubs in cupboard (trains, paw patrol, random vehicles, batman stuff) and 2 boxes in bedroom (dinosaur and Playmobil). We have a unit full of jigsaws/games etc. Now everything has a place and it's much easier to find what you're looking for. Might keep some in garage and rotate every few months but most of it needs to go.
