Does anyone else have a glass or two of wine while still breastfeeding???

My ds 16 weeks is still exclusively bf and seems to be thriving . I do have a small glass or two of wine most nights after his last big feed. He wakes once or twice during the night for feeds but this is usually about 5 - 6 hrs later. I only ask because i mentioned it to a friend of mine recently and she looked at me as if i was one of saddam's henchmen. Your views ladies...

You will never be able to please everyone. I personally think that it is fine as long as you are not drinking a crate of alcopops.

BadHair · 02/01/2007 16:55

I didn't but mainly because it made my dses either throw up or emit vile runny poo. I had rather hoped that a glass of vino would help them to sleep at night, but it did just the opposite.

Honey I did through all of mine and the 5 of them are just fine!

As Carmenere said it's not as if you are drinking loads.

I drunk. Not before about 3/4 months, but, I did start having the odd glass etc.

DetentionGrrrl · 02/01/2007 16:57

I did it, i personally wouldn't worry if your DS is well and happy.

cruisemum1 · 02/01/2007 16:59

oooh yippee! thanks . can't wait to tell my friend!

I'm still breastfeeding my 7mth old and I certainly haven't completely abstained from drinking during that time!

I think as long as you aren't going completely overboard, or drinking every single night, that there isn't a problem. In fact, some baby books even recommend the odd glass of wine to chill you out at the end of a long day!

Just carry on doing what feels right to you and remember that when you grew up your mum was probably drinking Guinness every night since they used to think it was good for pregnant women!

cruisemum1 · 02/01/2007 17:02

this is all good! imo happy mummy means happy baby! I usually have one glass every night and occasionally two

Tanya.. .they still do. They just don't tell you "officially". I got nothing but praise from my GP, my consultant and my MWs when I told them that I drank Guinness. My iron levels were always fab and my babies a nice healthy size.

Carmenere · 02/01/2007 17:07

I would LOVE a pint of Guinness just now

FrostyTheSnowMarsLady · 02/01/2007 17:08

Come on then Carmenere.... I'll stand you a pint at my local!

Carmenere · 02/01/2007 17:09

Oh I would love that Unfortunatly I am harnessed here by two wild dds and no childcare but even the thought has cheered me up

SherlockLGJ · 02/01/2007 17:12

Two ???? Carmenere ??

Carmenere · 02/01/2007 17:13

Well a dd and a French dsd, jaysus they don't call you Sherlock for nothing

SherlockLGJ · 02/01/2007 17:13

Did she bring any smelly cheese with her ??

SenoraPartridge · 02/01/2007 17:14

does anyone not have a glass of wine or two while breastfeeding?

Tatties · 02/01/2007 17:15

I do but have felt more comfortable with it as ds has got older (21mo now)

SherlockLGJ · 02/01/2007 17:17

Right she is not answering, which means two things, the answer is yes and she is scoffing it all herself.

Carmenere · 02/01/2007 17:18

No I still have plenty of Cashel Blue

SherlockLGJ · 02/01/2007 17:22

Grrrrrrrrrrrrr

DH bought some Cooleeny in the deli in Donnybrook on the way back to Northumberland Road. It was shoite, never really got runny and I am still not convinced that it wasn't on the turn.

Never liked that Deli, remember it when it was a hooksters.

popsycal · 02/01/2007 17:28

oh gosd i couldn't not
although i was more restrained when he was small

now though he is 22 months and i pretty much forget that i probably shoudlnt drink and drink as i would had i not been feeding

Carmenere · 02/01/2007 17:30

Cooleeney is very hit and miss, I got some nice Cooleeny over Christmas but I have had ttally rank ones before.

ivelostmyboobsboohoo · 03/01/2007 17:50

crikey me too. i drank and drank all the way through breastfeeding- which i did for a little under 2 years. its the only thing to look forward to at the end of the day and the thought of it gets me through .

lemonaid · 03/01/2007 18:02

Heck yes. I don't get completely trollied any more [draws a discreet veil over the last West London Mumsnet night out], though. But then I think that's a parenthood thing rather than specifically a breastfeeding thing.

lemonaid · 03/01/2007 18:03

DS is nearly 2 by the way
