Oh god I promised him an Elmer costume

Ok so world book day creeps ever closer. DS wants to be Elmer the elephant. Great! Pretty mainstream character, there MUST be a costume available right? Nope, NADA! Bar one costume on etsy for nearly £50

So I'm sat here cutting coloured fabric into squares, planning to make it myself. I've never done this before, please tell me it's not that hard?! Please!

Sewing squares of fabric together will be fine, just make sure the fabrics aren't too stretchy. I'd be tempted to make a tabard and then get a standard elephant mask and paint it.
