how often to change pyjamas

As the title says really...how often do you change your little one's pyjamas? Dd is 18 months and I've always put a fresh pair on every night but just wondering if it's necessary now, I end up with tons of washing and they look worn quickly as they're washed so often she has loads but still go through them quickly.

Every night for my 3 year old.

GrouchyKiwi · 11/01/2016 16:32

Every second night for nearly 4 year old, every night for 18 month old. Will continue that till the toddler is no longer in nappies.

DD1 will have fresh PJs if she's been exceptionally sweaty.

They both have clean clothes daily. Working on changing that with DD1 but she's mucky. I sometimes manage to get a second wear out of jumpers.

uhoh2016 · 11/01/2016 17:38

At that age I'd say every day only because they're wearing a nappy at night and although the nappy might not leak it can still leave a smell. My older dc are 8 and 5 and I try get 2-3 days out of them depending ok breakfast spillages etc.

Thanks for all the replies! So most people still do every night, dd nappy is usually bone dry on a morning but shortly after waking she does a huge wee and sometimes leaks so I'd have to change anyway. I was just curious to know if I was being silly but she does get a bath every night so will probably stick with fresh ones each night!

Always clean pjs every night here - they put them on after their baths. The DC have their pjs on for 10-12 hours. You only wear pants one day - surely it's the same? (Though when I was little I am sure I wore my nightie for 7 nights and it was changed at my weekly bath!).

Artandco · 11/01/2016 18:50

Botter - mine wear pants and vests under pajamas so those are changed but the pajamas relatively clean imo

superking · 11/01/2016 18:52

Every other night unless they get breakfast on them.

Mrswinkler · 11/01/2016 18:56

Every night! That seems a bit excessive.

And don't start on the best underpants scenario. Haven't you read the 'airing your fanjo' threads yet?

oobedobe · 11/01/2016 19:54

Clean every night until they were around 2/3 yo, now they wear for 2 or 3 nights at a time, unless they get dirty/smelly or spill something on them.

I think an older child needs 3 pairs of PJs to see them through the week. My two usually end up with extra pairs after Christmas pjs/onesie gifts etc, but I still don't fancy washing 14 pairs of pjs a week!

Jibberjabberjooo · 12/01/2016 06:40

Probably twice a week. I've got way too much washing to add to it with daily pyjama changes. Seems excessive to me.

MummyPig24 · 12/01/2016 12:41

Every 2 days unless they get dirty at breakfast.

TannhauserGate · 12/01/2016 12:47

Hmm... Well my 6yo has usually wriggled out of his by the time he's fallen asleep. He sleeps in just boxers for eleven months of the year, too.

DancingDinosaur · 12/01/2016 12:47

Every night. 6 and 8.

BertieBotts · 12/01/2016 13:06

Same as other clothes for me. If they smell or look grubby.

blushingmare · 12/01/2016 21:09

God this thread makes me feel like a right tramp! DS 20mo, probably every 3-4 days, but only because they've got mucky at breakfast or nappy has leaked. DD 3.5, often goes a couple of weeks! mainly because she's obsessed with her Gruffalo PJs and won't give them up Kids aren't smelly at that age and they're PJs - no one else sees them anyway, so why the need to change so frequently if not actually dirty? Am slightly baffled, but seem to be in the minority here, so will take myself and my children's dirty PJs off elsewhere Wink

WorldsBiggestGrotbag · 13/01/2016 15:45

My 2 year old eats breakfast in hers and they always get something down them, otherwise I probably wouldn't change every day. If I dress her before breakfast she would get food down her clothes!

Minty82 · 13/01/2016 16:08

Every night (aged nearly 4 and nearly 2) - mainly because they get breakfast all over themselves, which is precisely why they have breakfast in their pj's! DD is actually much tidier now and could re-wear hers but that somehow feels wrong if her brother always gets fresh ones, and it's habit... When she starts school in September I might institute a new policy of dressing before breakfast and phase out the nightly pyjama changes as it does now feel a little excessive! DS definitely needs them though.

Minty82 · 13/01/2016 16:10

Exactly World's sorry, missed your message before I posted!

cornishglos · 13/01/2016 21:22

blushing I'm with you (nearly). Toddler changes every 3-4 days. He's a careful eater and doesn't get breakfast on them. How on earth does one keep up with the washing if every family member changes their pyjamas every night? I wash mine once a week but shower every day and obviously change my underwear every morning.
