I know people don't like the 'stupid' word and with good reason....

but do you think I made a 'show' of myself over this...?

At school gates.... Was picking up 4yr old and 2 yr old in tow. 2yr old suddenly made a break for it and managed, despite the gaggles of women between him and the school gate (leading directly to the road) being 2 or 3 bodies thick, to squeeze through a child like gap and hurtle at break neck spead towards the road.

I yelled 'STOP!' (imagine bellowing fishwife tone) and the crowd parted for me, I caught him and hollered "You STUPID boy"

Do you think that in the heat of the moment I will be judged kindly? It was the panic that made me do it your honour.

I didn't have a choice but to yell stop, but personally I dislike the word stupid when applied to a child as do many other people.

Not hugely worried about this of course (before someone tells me it's trivial), but as a new (unestablished mum) at the School gate not yet fully integrated into the Playground Maffia I crave some reassurance!

stupid fuckin' bunch of parents for not grabbing hold of him

what were they thinking?

(I think you're forgiven for use of stupid ... beats squished)

iPodForLifeNotJustForChristmas · 12/12/2006 21:09

They would tut hellalot loud if he'd got run over...

I probably wouldn't have noticed what you said - just relieved you stopped him in time.

I have done that dash accross the yard to stop DS 21 months from getting to the road and I know the feeling of panic, you would be forgiven I think.

I'm giving the other parents the benefit of the doubt in not grabbing him - it did happen really quickly, in a flash (scariest thing about it)

If I were you I'd change schools now!

You must be mortified.

LazycowLyinginaManger · 13/12/2006 16:51

You'll be alright as long as none of the mothers are MN members

I personally agree with Cod and would have shouted something MUCH worse including many many swear words.
