My exam results are due...

I am very scared in case I have failed and wasted a whole year. People keep saying "Oh Shiny.. you'll have passed with flying colours, don't be silly!" because all my TMA scores were ok.. but I am not good with actual exams.. and it bears no relation to writing an assignment; you do that with your course books and notes in front of you after all!! I did the exam on Friday 13th October and it was the first proper exam I had done since school. It was a Level 2 course, year 2 (part time, so 4 more years to go! ) of my degree with the OU. (Last years courses were just ongoing assessment chosen for exactly that reason!)

I came out of the exam honestly not knowing whether I would have scraped a pass or not.. I wrote plenty but think I went off on tangents trying to make the questions relate directly to what I knew best.. which they did not.. and I forgot a few things; so unless I have got sympathy marks (I don't think those exist!!) then I am worried I may be in trouble...

I also struggled with the whole concept of writing what was essentially 3 essays in 3 hours with no notes and everything having to come out of my very muddled, stressed and anxious head. My revision time was not what it should have been because my MIL died unexpectedly on the 2nd Sept, but this was not in the 'previous 28 days before the exam' (quite!) so I couldn't submit the form that you can submit if you have had a bereavement right before an exam. The rules stated that clearly.

The post is due.. I am crapping myself as I know I will have the result before the 15th, it says so on my online student page. Arrgh.. If I can have just scraped a pass I will be more than happy... I don't expect a nice percentage anything like my 'ok' percentages of my TMAs,.. just a pass grade.....

Hi Shiny - I assume you're checking your home page regularly (mine's open at the moment - I refresh frequently ). I seem to remember that the results came out about lunchtime Thursday last year. So I'm hoping that it'll be the same again.

I don't think you need to worry about the postman - the letter won't come until next week. What are you studying?

Relax - and don't stress too much. I'm off to make a Birthday card for my neice - it'll help pass the time to lunchtime

ShinyHappyStarOfBethlehem · 14/12/2006 11:26

Yes Molesworth has been saying lunchtime online as well...

I am doing a degree is Childhood and Youth studies and course I am waiting for results on is Childhood (level 2). First ever Uni exam though hence the fright, lol..

See you here at lunchtime then!

The results went online 5 mins ago so check your scores people!

I GOT A GRADE 2 PASS... This is so much better than I dared hope.. I know I buggered up parts of the exam.. I can't believe it!!!

OP posts:
cazzybabs · 14/12/2006 12:06

I got a grade 2 pass as well but I did rubbish in ym exam - not enough time..went from distinctions for my TMAs to grade 3 for my exam...so a little disappointed!

ShinyHappyStarOfBethlehem · 14/12/2006 12:09

You passed though Cazzy.. and WELL DONE you getting distinction grades on your TMAs that's fab! (And something I know nothing about! )

I have to say I'm thrilled.. I get by with the minimum of study and am permanently sleep deprived due to my fmaily commitments, and didn't do enough revision for my exam, so a Grade 2 for me is great news!

I just rang Mars to tell her to check and the bugger is not in.

cazzybabs · 14/12/2006 12:12

I know I should be happy...but I would have really liked to have done better in the exam.....anyway I didn't. What are you doing next year? I am thinking have having a break from social sciences (have now done all the psychology courses and doing a chemistry course..,.ahhhhh shall have a new baby to cope with a new subject...still make things interesting!)

ShinyHappyStarOfBethlehem · 14/12/2006 12:16

I am doing K204, Working with children and families starting in Feb.

I think you are amazing, studying and preparing to juggle a new baby at the same time.. I couldn't have done it!!

ShinyHappyStarOfBethlehem · 14/12/2006 12:18

Don't know why it's not on, Sherlock!! I thought they all would go on together, but I'm no expert.

Stargazer and Moley, HOW DID YOU DO???

OP posts:
Stargazer · 14/12/2006 12:26

Hi Shiny - I think the OU website has crashed due to the number of people checking in!! Congratulations on your pass - you must be so excited. And as for me, well I'm delighted - got distinctions for both S343 and SXR343 - both 3rd level chemistry courses. I'm off to have a celebratory glass of wine. Can't stop grinning

ShinyHappyStarOfBethlehem · 14/12/2006 12:31

Yes I think it did crash but now seems to have recovered, lol!

WELL DONE on your amazing passes Stargazer! I am SO in awe of people who get distinction grades!! (But not jealous, I am still amazed at myself for 'holding my own' at university level study. I wasn't 'thick' at school.. but I was borderline for grammar so didn't go (I begged my mum not to appeal, I don't think she's ever forgiven me for not getting in! C'est la vie!)

How on earth have you done two Grade 3 course simultaneously??!!! Wow! You have kids I imagine????

OP posts:
ShinyHappyStarOfBethlehem · 14/12/2006 12:35

My OES is slightly below what is says is 'necessary' for a Grade 2 pass, but it says in the Qs that they can use discretion in this if they feel you are academically up to it.. perhaps one of the exam moderators noticed my frenzied use of Bach's Rescue Remedy and that I sitting gazing into space eating raisins at one point and trying not to pass out with fright.. and I got a sympathy mark or two after all... LOL!!

OP posts:
Stargazer · 14/12/2006 12:38

Yes, Shiny - have two DC - a DS (almost 11 - thinks he's 21) and a DD (5 going on 15). As for doing two third level coures - one was a week at summer school, so not too bad. However, next year I'm doing S344, S377 (two 30pt, 3rd levels - must be mad) and a SXR343 a week at summer school - so it's going to be a bit manic . Still, I'm very lucky to have a very supportive husband and mother (who comes to look after the kids when I'm away - all 3).

Still feeling chuffed

Molesworth · 14/12/2006 13:11

I got a distinction!

ShinyHappyStarOfBethlehem · 14/12/2006 13:13

WELL DONE MOLEY!!!!
