Amount of TV for one year old!

How much TV do you think is acceptable for a 1 year old per day? My DD LOVES it, and I let her watch for about an hour&half in the morning and same in the evening. Do you think this is too much? I feel really guilty letting her watch any, but she stands in front of the tv pointing and crying!!

I let DS watch TV, but I think 3 hours a day for a 1 year old is too much, really. We have it on before breakfast, and if DS is sick (or I'm too sick to cope with reading/playing), and that's pretty much it! And I think that's probably too much for a 17 mo but I don't let him have chocolate or sweets or squash, and I feel I have to lighten up on him somewhere! I think the key is to decide what YOU think is acceptable, tell your child the rule(even if you think she doesn't understand), and implement it consistently.

i have an article somewhere linking tv watching in under 3's to autism
I dislike tv since one of my boys has seemed to like it 'a bit too much' since age 3
My nearly 4 year old will now watch some 3-4 days a week but my baby will not watch it till he is 3

I wish my 20 month old would watch TV just so he would STOP STILL FOR JUST ONE MINUTE!! He just doesn't, apart from snippets of his 'sing and sign' DVD.

Ds has only just started watching tv (he is 3.6yrs) and I read somewhere that 3 year olds should only watch for around 1 hour a day and that you should try and sit with them to talk through what they are seeing.

However, should say that holding off from tv for so long was more a matter of neither me nor ds being interested rather than principled parenting . Now that I have Sky and ds has a Noddy DVD I suspect principles will go out of the window.

DD - 6 months - will inevitably get more exposure but hope to limit it since there are loads of studies showing that it is bad for development, particularly when used as background noise (as oppose to the mum sitting, explaining what is going on). Also, I do think it moves too fast for small eyes. Ds is always one programme behind !
