Potty training and toddler diarrhoea - not a match made in heaven!

Hi, my dd is 35 months and although was dry during the day, she still pooed in her pants up to 6 times a day. In the end I put her back in nappies and is still in her pull-up pants because she still seems to have no idea she is pooing. Her poos are always sloppy and after reading another thread i looked up toddler diarrhoea (or peas and carrots) which described her poos exactly. However, my HV recommended I visit the doctor which i did today and she seems the think it is constipation despite performing an examination and not finding anything and has prescribed senna (darkly mentioning hospitals if senna doesn't help).

I am now confused - has this happened to anyone else. I still go with the Toddler Diarrhoea theory but would like to know how long it has taken others to potty train with a child with sloppy "peas and carrots" poos. All articles indicate it is common and yet my GP seemed to dismiss it straight away. Please advise.

I can't help, but I really want to bump this and find out the answer, too! My dd has toddler diarrhoea and although she'd too little for potty training yet (she's 18 months) I am not looking forward to it. I keep hoping that by the time we get there she'll have grown out of the diarrhoea, but I'm afraid that may be wishfl thinking. Does anyone have any experience of potty training a child with TD?

give her a few drops of grapefruit seed extract in 4 oz of water. this is always good for diarrhoea.

Thanks i will try this - senna mde no difference and am now trying her in training pants again using bribery (little toys as presents) - still pooing in pants, wees in toilet fine. Have decided now not to put her back in nappies but use training pants instead. She starts nursery next week and i am hoping (if it is behavioural - I really don't know!) that she will copy the others and go to the toilet. We will see what happens!
