My AP tends to have the boys about 25 hrs per week as my dH works shifts so is often around during the week. The powers that be tend to recommend that AP's are not left in sole charge of children under 3 (this is however only a recommendation) as they often have no formal childcare experience or qualifications (mid you neither did I when I had my children at the age of 36!!!). Also as they are not registered they do not qualify for help with childcare costs I had to weigh up whether it was worth paying more and getting assistance with a registered childminder or paying less to an AP and footing the bill myself. The decision was pretty much made for when when I couldn't find any childminders who could do the school run etc with vacancies!
Good luck with the course
